Teen Tech Video Awards Night April 19, 2012

The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) hosted the Awards Night & Video Screening for the Teen Tech Video Contest it held in March this year to highlight Teen Tech Week. Contestants 13-18 had to create a one-minute video about their favourite book. Whether it was a trailer, a parody, a review or a dramatization, all the participants delivered with creativity and talent.

Vernon Library Celebrates Renovations and 40 Years June 2, 2012

On June 2, 2012 Vernon branch library will celebrate 40 years of service and recent renovations as part of Ottawa Doors Open. Renovations include reconfigured front entrance, external barrier free ramp complete with new lighting, revitalized veranda and interior spaces, exterior landscaping. Vernon is one of OPL’s smallest branches and is housed in a former one room school built in 1882.

Ottawa’s Human Library Event, January 2012

Over 60 people from the National Capital Region volunteered to become “books” and share their life experiences with almost 400 citizens at five OPL branches and the Canadian War Museum. This first time and very successful event was a joint project between the OPL, CBC-Ottawa and the Canadian War Museum.

OPLF Literary Evening, November 29,  2011 with Alberto Manguel

More than 300 library supporters, sponsors and special guests came together at Ottawa’s wonderful new Convention Centre to hear internationally acclaimed Canadian author and translator Alberto Manguel at the Foundation’s 9th annual literary evening in support of the Ottawa Public Library.

City Councillor and Chair of the Ottawa Public Library Board Jan Harder has raised almost $100,000 in 2010 and 2011 for the Foundation's New Central Library capital fund with her annual Jan Harder Charity Golf Classic tournament.

Ruth E Dickinson Branch celebrates improvements, August 2011

Thanks to $550,000 allocated from the federal/provincial/municipal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, the Ruth E Dickinson branch in the Walter Baker Sports Centre was able to expand program areas, make washrooms barrier-free, install 24 hour return service and make the borrower service areas more efficient.

Alta Vista Branch celebrates improvements April 5, 2011

Thanks to $750, 000 allocated from the federal/provincial/municipal Infrastructure Stimulus fund, and help from the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library, the Alta Vista branch was remodelled and added self-check stations, accessible washrooms and a new program rooms.

The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) has honoured Lori Nash, long-time library advocate, former President of the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library (FOPLA), and director of the Ottawa Public Library Foundation (OPLF) by naming a meeting room at its Cumberland branch during a reception Wednesday March 23.

U of O School of Information Studies Bursary, Oct 16, 2011

Ernest Côté, former OPL board chair and Friends founder, joined financial forces with the OPL Friends and Foundation to create a bursary for the University of Ottawa School of Information Studies program. Anyone in living in the National Capital Region is eligible to apply. As of Spring 2012 the bursary endowment had reached $215,000.
