Dear Donors, Supporters and Sponsors,
The Ottawa Public Library Foundation is being wound up after more than 10 years in operation. Following extensive discussion and reflection on the Foundation’s changing relationship with its partner the Ottawa Public Library, the Foundation Board has decided to dissolve the organization. In 2002 the Foundation was established to receive donations and to maintain funds which benefit, enhance and improve the resource and services provided by the Library to the citizens of Ottawa. In late 2012, the Library Board decided to seek donations directly from the public. In light of this decision, the Foundation Board has concluded that it no longer has a useful role to play and that the Foundation should be wound up.
The Foundation’s Articles of Incorporation address what to do with any net assets, should the Foundation ever be dissolved. The Articles require that these net assets be transferred to the Community Foundation of Ottawa which houses and manages the Ottawa Public Library Endowment Fund. Arrangements are underway to complete this transfer. The OPL Endowment Fund supports the programs and services of the Library and you are invited to consider making a donation to the Endowment Fund. Of course you will receive an official receipt for income tax purposes for any such donation.
For more information on the Community Foundation of Ottawa and the OPL Endowment Fund please see the DONATE section on our website.
On behalf of the Ottawa Public Library Foundation Board, I want to thank you for your support over the past eleven years and for your faith in and commitment to public libraries in general, and the Ottawa Public Library in particular. Public libraries open doors in the ways they contribute to life-long learning and literacy – essential in the life of every individual in every community.
Thank you very much.
